Around twenty years ago, polecats were considered to be very scarce, if not extinct, in Worcestershire. During the past fifteen years or so, they have staged something of a comeback. At first there were problems of distinguishing between polecats and polecat-ferret hybrids, but during the period of collecting for the Atlas this was resoled and the map of Polecat distribution almost certainly shows a real increase.
