Worcestershire Record No. 24 April 2008 p. 22

DO WE HAVE ANY COCKROACHES IN WORCESTERSHIRE?

John Partridge

I was consulting Gary Farmer on a list of Orthoptera to send up to the National Recording scheme, and he asked if I was sending in any cockroach records, which I hadn’t thought to include.

A bit of delving showed that we have one relatively recent record for the German Cockroach Blattella germanica, and five old records for the Common Cockroach Blatta orientalis, dating from 1949.

Have we really exterminated these species from the county? Your records would be welcome at WBRC.
