Ancient Tree Project - where the records are

The map that shows up when you open this page just shows the positions of a few of the larger trees. Clicking on a marker will display the tree species, and its girth and height if these have been recorded.

You can make the centre of the map larger by clicking on the + square on the left, or dragging the slider on the vertical bar, or double-clicking on the map. You can move the centre of the map using the arrow buttons at top left, or, if there are only a few markers on the map, by holding down the mouse button and 'dragging' the map in the required direction.

As you zoom in, more markers will become visible - these are for the smaller trees, as determined by the 'Girth'. The smallest group are indicated by blue markers, and are shown when the zoom level is 14 or greater.

You may find it better to use the Satellite or Hybrid maps as you zoom in. You may find that the marker does not 'land' exactly on a tree. Bear in mind that an 8-figure grid reference is only to 10 metres, and the GPS readings may not be that accurate.

Many of these trees are on private land and cannot be visited.
