SSSI's

Sites of Special Scientific Interest

We have quite a large number of these in the county. Some are Reserves owned by the Wildlife Trust, some are Local Nature Reserves (LNR's) under local council control, and many are privately owned and without public access, although in some cases public footpaths run through the site.

The amount of protection that the status provides is quite limited, and some of these sites have been severely damaged, and no longer deserve the designation.
