WORCESTERSHIRE BIOLOGICAL RECORDS CENTRE: MANAGERS REPORT

Simon Wood

Thank you to everyone who has contributed data to WBRC over the last year. The database of accessible records now stands at almost ¾ million and with an additional batch of electronic data currently awaiting importation its breadth and diversity continues to grow. The Mammal Atlas project continues to generate a good number of records but please do continue to send in your mammal sightings and encourage others to do so. I can provide additional recording forms if you need them, just give me a call. I would like to extend specific thanks to Mr John Dodgson and Mr Ian Wright who between them have provided an invaluable quantity of mammal data over the year.

The development of Recorder 2002 as WBRC’s main data storage system has continued and a number of Worcestershire Recorders have persevered as home users and are passing data through to the WBRC database. The near future will bring the next evolution of the database in the guise of Recorder 6: I shall keep you all informed on this front as it progresses (especially the home users, so please don’t worry!).

I have mentioned in a previous edition of Worcestershire Record the important issue of data flow procedures between individuals and WBRC, we identified a number of immediate problems but since we have progressed with a large volume of Worcestershire Wildlife Trust reserves based data, I would like to make a request for all who pass data through to both WWT and ourselves to just make themselves known as an additional safeguard against duplication of computerisation effort, many thanks.

Please feel free to contact me on 01905 759759, e-mail simon@wbrc.org.uk to discuss any aspects of data collation or indeed other issues relating to WBRC.

Have an enjoyable Christmas and New Year and I look forward to seeing you and your records in 2006!
