Thanks must be given again this year to everyone who has contributed to WBRC record collection, data entry at home or within WBRC office. Thanks to all this help the database of accessible records now stands at just over 886,000 in total. With many 2007 records still to come into WBRC this number is constantly being elevated. Ever greater record volume is just one aspect of coverage. We are also increasing both the geographic spread and taxonomic diversity of data over the county. The supply of records to users has again also continued to increase, especially those to commercial enquiries from Ecological and Environmental Consultants, providing a valuable income stream to support the core data functions of WBRC.

I have mentioned in a previous edition of Worcestershire Record the important issue of data flow procedures between individuals and WBRC. We have identified and solved a number of immediate problems but I would like to make a repeat request for all who pass data through to other recorders locally, or to national groups and the WBRC to make themselves known to me as an additional safeguard against duplication of records and computerisation effort: many thanks.

The Mammal Atlas project has been continuing to generate a good number of records over the summer and we have produced the second draft set of maps that are included in this issue of Worcestershire Record.

Thank you to all who were able to attend our ‘Official’ new office opening celebration back in October, the plaque that Mr Meiklejohn unveiled is now firmly fixed to the wall so please feel free to call in and have a look! We are very grateful to the Worcestershire Wildlife Trust for providing the independent WBRC with such excellent facilities.
