Worcestershire Record No. 23 November 2007 p. 4
Dates for your diary
The expected dates for the three summer field recording days are:
Saturday 7th June 2008. Hipton Hill orchards, Lenchwick, near Evesham by kind permission of the owners The Vale Landscape Trust. An interesting site of about 70 acres of old plum orchards on calcareous soils. Known to be a good site for vascular plants but little other recording.
Saturday 5th July 2008. Pound Green Common on the north side of Wyre Forest. A joint meeting with Wyre Forest Study Group. This is the site made famous by Edgar Chance with his early studies of cuckoos (The Cuckoo’s Secret). Since his day the heathland was badly invaded by bracken and scrub but recent work is successfully re-creating heathland. We may also venture into the nearby fringes of Wyre Forest.
Saturday 2nd August 2008. Hartlebury Common, Stourport-on-Severn. In association with Hartlebury Common Local Group who have been undertaking scrub clearance near the sire of the old bog and have organised various recording events.
Booking forms for these events have been circulated (in early February 2008). Details of venues, times, and meeting places will be circulated to those who book. It is essential that you book for these events.
