Kevin McGee.
Alphabetically by Family.
Choerades marginatus (Asilidae,
local). One collected from Bramble foliage at Mill Meadow, Drakes Broughton, SO919483, on 14.7.02. I have subsequently recorded it from the same site on several more dates since, the last being of one on an Oak stump on 29.9.02. This species is also present at Tiddesley Wood, SO930455, with one on trackside foliage on 29.7.02. Conops ceriaeformis (Conopidae, local). One male was collected from a Thistle species at Tiddesley Wood, SO930455, on 18.8.02. This may comprise the 1st County record as no earlier records have thus far come to light. It appears very similar to the much more widespread Conops quadrifasciatus, so it is well worth capturing anything suspect to check for further records of C.ceriaeformis. Myopa testacea (Conopidae, local). One male was collected from our garden on low growing plants alongside the lawn. Drakes Broughton, SO928486, on 13.4.02. Oxycera rara (Stratiomyidae, local). One female was collected from a flower-rich poolside at Ashmoor Common, SO850470, on 6.7.02. |

Oxycera trilineata (Stratiomyidae, local). One collected from site as above on 21.7.02. Pipiza austriaca (Syrphidae, local). One female was photographed on low herbage at Mill Meadow, Drakes Broughton, SO919483, on 8.6.02.

Tabanus autumnalis (Tabanidae, local). One female was collected from an Oak trunk at Castlemorton Common, SO786394, on 10.8.02. The specimen shown in the photograph below was taken alongside the canal at Briar Hill Coppice on 27.7.01. |
